OpenAMRobot v0.0.1 - Open-source ROS 2 mobile robot platform

Hi everyone,

We have released OpenAMRobot v0.0.1, the first public product-level release of our open-source mobile robotics platform.

OpenAMRobot is built around ROS 2 Jazzy and is intended for robotics research, education, rapid prototyping, and early-stage embodied AI development.

The current release includes:

  • Differential-drive mobile robot hardware
  • Mechanical CAD and manufacturing files
  • Electrical documentation and BOM
  • Teensy 4.0 firmware with micro-ROS
  • Gazebo Harmonic simulation
  • Nav2 autonomous navigation
  • LiDAR SLAM
  • AprilTag-based auto-docking
  • Web-based operator interface
  • Blockly no-code programming
  • Camera streaming and telemetry
  • Initial voice and LLM command workflow

The project is developed across separate hardware, software, firmware, UI, interfaces, communication, and documentation repositories.

For this release, we created a single frozen product archive containing the full platform. This separates continuously evolving development repositories from stable, reproducible product releases.

The platform is still early and has known limitations, especially around functional safety, physical docking reliability, and complete industrial readiness. These are documented in the release.

We would particularly appreciate feedback on:

  • Hardware and firmware structure
  • Blockly and operator-interface workflows
  • Reproducible multi-repository releases
