I am the developer and maintainer for Mitsubishi Electric ROS2 Driver.
In our efforts to continue our commitment to democratize MELFA robots and participate in Open-Source robotics, I would like to start an open discussion with the community. Any ROS and open-source robotics topics are welcomed.
I would like to start the ball rolling with a few topics:
what kind of existing functionality would you like to see in our MELFA ROS2 Driver?
In the coming months, I will be releasing repositories with tutorials & documentation for MELSEC Programmable Logic Controller ROS2 compatibility and GOT-Human Machine Interface ROS2 compatibility via the MELFA ROS2 Driver. If there’s a Mitsubishi Electric product that you want to use for your ROS2 project, feel free to reply as well or contact me directly.
Please do not request for a return of the Lancer Evo
If you have another topic that you would like to discuss, feel free to start a discussion in this thread. If you prefer to contact me directly, you can send me an email at muyao.liu@asia.meap.com
RV-2AJ reached end-of-life more than 10 years ago and it has passed the 7-year post-EOL support period. As such, we will not support RV-2AJ.
maybe consider upgrading to the RV-4FRL or RV-2FR? It is part of our tier 1 support list together with 7 other robots. It will continue to receive hardware and software support/updates for at least the next 10 years.
According to this manual on pdf page 100 or document page 3-87, RV-2AJ along with 20+ legacy robots can be controlled using “Real Time External Control”. the melfa_driver package, which uses ros2_control, wraps the “Real Time External Control” API which “may” be usable with these robots in the manual. I do not know if it will work as I do not have access to these robots.
We do not officially support legacy robots and have no plans to do so, but we do not prevent users to use our open-source software to extend the life of legacy robots. Our ROS2 driver is released under Apache 2.0.
I have RV7FRL, RV8CRL and RV5AS robots with CR800D controllers.
Now i want to know the ROS support available for these robots also?
Thank You In advance.
For now, I happen to be working on a project related to the integration of ROS2 and the Mitsubishi MELFA RV-2SDB arm robot with controller CR1DA-771 controller in my campus laboratory. However, until now, I haven’t been able to access it using TCP/IP (Ethernet). My need is to read and send the values on each of the motor joints.
Previous projects used PLC + Computer vision, and deprogrammed using Ciros Programming or RT3 Toolbox. Then for my project this time, I only connect ROS2 and MELFA RV-2SDB with CR1DA-771 controller, for wider development purposes, and until now it is still not possible. I ask for your help, why does this happen?
Is the case like the RV-2AJ above?
MELFA ROS2 Driver supports FR, CR and AS robots only. The robots you are working with are legacy robots and are not supported. Please consider upgrading to the robots listed in the GitHub repo.
