ROS News for the Week of October 20th, 2025 [Early ROSCon Edition]

ROS News for the Week of October 20th, 2025

ROSCon starts this coming Monday! Besides the main ROSCon talks and workshops happening at the event itself there are dozens of other events organized by our community members and sponsors that you should check out. On Monday there are free ROSCon mini-workshops and our free ROSCon birds of a feather sessions. On Wednesday our friends at Autoware have organized a ROSCon after party. On Friday, October 31st, there is the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH) event and an all day post-ROSCon hackathon organized by our local meetup group.

Make sure to checkout the Whova App for meetups and dinners organized by the ROS community. (Yes, we know, no one wants to install an app. We we’re skeptical at first too but this one is shockingly good.)

We will have a livestream available on the ROSCon website. An announcement will go out on Tuesday morning as soon as the stream is live.

The OSRA has approved a new Robotics Enhancement Proposal (REP) process to replace the current ROS Enhancement Proposal (REP) process. The new REP process is largely a cosmetic and procedural update to the old REP process; it expands REPs to cover all five OSRA projects and clarifies the REP ratification process.

We had another ROS 2 / Le Robot interface drop this week. Rosetta is a ROS 2 package that standardizes the interface between ROS 2 topics and LeRobot policies using a small YAML contract.

Looking for a ROS 2 telemetry solution? @szobov just released a new repository that is, “a production-grade integration library for instrumenting ROS 2 applications with OpenTelemetry’s distributed tracing and observability capabilities. This project provides a comprehensive toolchain for building, deploying, and monitoring ROS 2 workspaces with native OpenTelemetry support for both C++ and Python nodes.”

Got a Minute? :alarm_clock:

Here’s a teaser slide from my ROSCon talk. I reference one of my favorite tech talks ever. If you find yourself with some free time this week why not “sharpen your tools.”
