ROS News for the Week of July 28th, 2025

:tada: HUGE news out of the OSRA TGC!

Thanks to the generous support of our OSRA members, and a lot of hard work by @gbiggs and @Vanessa_Yamzon_Orsi, the TGC is in now in a position to fund open source development on behalf of the OSRA’s member projects. First up is fixing some long-standing issues with our documentation, and bringing Rust crate dependencies to the ROS build farm, which should enable better Rust :crab: support down the line.

Our next ROS Meetup in Singapore is this Wednesday. The event will be at the National University of Singapore and feature a collection of academic lighting talks.

We had not one, but two ROS Meetups last night! One at Avidbots in Kitchener, Ontario and one in conjunction with our friends at PX4 at Neros Technologies in El Segundo, California. One of our speakers in El Segundo was the team over at Bagel building LLM tooling for bag file analysis.

ROSCon China has been announced! It will be in Shanghai this year on October 31st and November 1st.

RoboCAD 9.0 has been released! I had a great conversation with one of the FreeCAD board members last night in El Segundo at our Meetup. It is really fantastic to see fully open source tool chains for robotics development become a real thing.

Our GSoC student Shashank Rao has been hard at work building a new GPU accelerated LIDAR and depth image pipeline for Gazebo. Check out a demo of this new feature in this recording of our July Gazebo Community Meeting.
