Hello community!
Our last meeting of the year will show a Google Summer of Code project to implement a physics-based sonar in Gazebo
.
Here are the details:
“The goal of this GSoC project was to migrate the DAVE Multibeam Sonar plugin from ROS 1 and Gazebo Classic to ROS 2 and Gazebo Harmonic, while also improving its CUDA acceleration. We developed a custom rendering sensor and optimized GPU performance by reusing buffers, reducing unnecessary memory transfers, using intrinsic functions, and replacing custom kernels with cuBLAS routines. As a result, we achieved a 12.6× speedup for a single sonar frame. This makes underwater sonar simulations faster and more efficient, enabling better training and testing of underwater robotic systems.”
Here’s the agenda:
-
Latest news from Open Robotics about Gazebo - Addisu Tadesse, Intrinsic.
-
Accelerating Physics-Based Multibeam Sonar Simulation for Underwater Robotics on CUDA - Helena Moyen, University of São Paulo.
Optional: Lighting talks
We opened a slot for short (2 minutes) lighting presentations. If you’re interested in talking about your maritime project contact me (caguero AT honurobotics DOT com) and I’ll book your slot.
