ROS News for the Week of December 8th, 2025

:christmas_tree: All we want for Christmas is for you to become a Build Farm Backer! The ROS Build Farm is one of the largest public Jenkins instances in the world, and it is also one of our largest expenses. If you’ve ever saved yourself a few hours of compile time by downloading one of our pre-compiled ROS binaries, please consider pitching in to support our server costs. The money raised by this campaign goes directly to the OSRF, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and is tax-deductible in the US.

As part of our Build Farm Backer campaign we’re also offering Infra Team swag for the first time ever.

This week our colleagues at RAI released SynchROS2, a package designed to make synchronization in ROS 2 easier, faster, and more reliable. The SynchROS2 package allows for locking in callbacks without creating deadlocks and looping through messages in real time, while providing single node per process semantics like ROS 1. If you are interested in how RAI uses SynchROS2, you can check out their awesome ROSCon 2025 talk here.

:train: We’re big fans of trains here at Open Robotics and we are super excited for our colleagues in France who just released this awesome video of their ROS-based railway inspection robot.

This week our colleagues at Luxonis took the plunge and became members of the OSRA! The Luxonis team has been a huge supporter of ROS since its inception, and we’re really excited to have them join us. They just released a brand new version of their wildly popular OAK-D depth cameras, the OAK-D 4 Pro.

Got a Minute :wrapped_gift: ?

  • Content filters are now in RCLPy and we’re looking for someone to add content filter capabilities to the ROS 2 CLI ahead of the Lyric release.
  • :sos_button: We’re drowning in PRs to review right now, and we could really use some help with second pull request reviews. If you have a few hours to spare, consider swinging by RCLCpp, RCLPy, or any repo in the ROS 2 org and taking a look at any PR you feel comfortable reviewing.
    • If you’ve never contributed to ROS before, helping us review pull requests is a great way to familiarize yourself with the code and help us out at the same time. You do not need to be a maintainer or committer to do pull request reviews for any of the core ROS packages.
