ROS News for the week of September 28th, 2026

:canada: ROSCon Global 2026 was last week in Toronto! There were a lot of big announcements, including Intrinsic releasing Intrinsic Open Core and wrapping up the AI for Industry challenge, PickNik and Qualcomm merging, Red Hat Enterprise Linux being elevated to a Tier 1 ROS operating system, and NVIDIA releasing Isaac ROS 5. In other news, ROSCon Global 2027 will be held in :poland: Krakow, Poland . Videos from ROSCon 2026 should be out in a couple of weeks.

On the heels of ROSCon we’re running our annual developer survey. We do not collect telemetry from the users of our open source projects, and this is the best mechanism we have for getting feedback on our open source projects. The good news is that we’re giving away :five: :zero: ROS or Gazebo shirts to survey participants chosen at random. If you make the time to take the survey there’s a pretty good chance you’ll get some free OSRF swag.

Orion is an open source 12 degree of freedom mini quadruped robot that runs ROS.. Unlike a lot of the other mini-quads out there it has a pair of stereo cameras, a LIDAR, and an NVIDIA Jetson so it can run a full Nav2 autonomy stack.

Are you struggling to properly configure your ROS middleware layer? Our colleagues at Clearpath have open sourced their ROSCon Global 2026 Workshop on Mastering the Jazzy RMW. Clearpath configures a lot of robots, and they’ve distilled their knowledge down to an easy-to-follow self-guided workshop that will teach you the ins and outs of RMW configuration.

We would really appreciate you taking the time to fill out our annual survey. We need this user data to help guide our plans for the future of ROS, Gazebo, Open-RMF, ROS Control, and our shared infrastructure.
