ROS News for the Week of May 4th, 2026

The ROS 2 Lyrical Luth Test Tutorial party is ongoing. The good news is we’re on the cusp of closing more tickets than we closed last year. The bad news is that, thanks to a larger test matrix, we have a lot more tickets to close than last year.

We could still really use your help! Everyone who pitches in will get their name in the Lyrical release notes, and there are still enough tickets left to be in the running for swag. If you want to test on easy mode @skye.galaxy just dropped Lyrical Docker files.

@tfoote just pushed a new stats page that displays the current number of open tickets across the YATM test matrix.

ROSCon ticket sales open up on Monday! On Monday we’ll also be announcing our first batch of sponsors and our ROSCon workshops. If you are planning to attend ROSCon Global in Toronto this September now is the time to start having those conversations with your employers and families.

It is 2026 and we’re all walking around with IMUs, cameras, and LIDAR systems in our pockets. Why not put them to good use on your robot with Sensor Stream?

Speaking of sensor streaming, @StefanFabian has released ros_camera_streamer a new tool that let’s you quickly setup your own ROS 2 , RTP , SRT , and WebRTC camera sources with minimal fuss. This tool makes it trivially easy to roll your own teleop and remonitoring solution with ROS 2.

Robotics is an expensive hobby, just ask any FIRST robotics team! @TamirL is trying to democratize ROS education by creating the most affordable ROS robot yet, MARPY (Most Afforable ROS Platform Yet). The total BOM cost is $50 US and you get a couple of wheels, an ESP32, and a camera. Most of the compute is performed locally. Check out the details here.
