Today we are announcing the addition of two new control modalities to our Remote Teleop capability: VR controllers and mouse gestures. With these you can now control arms, mobile bases, or both at the same time, from anywhere in the world. This is useful both for continuous data collection as well as on-demand intervention on deployed robots.
Some people have asked which arms they can use this with, and the answer is, of course, any and all. We use ROS (or zeroMQ if you prefer) to locally share on the robot the control messages received from the front-end and you are responsible for subscribing to these topics and feeding them to your IK solver or similar. It doesn’t even need to be an arm. You could also control a gantry with this if you like or anything else that’s naturally controlled using Cartesian coordinates.
