ROS News for the Week of August 18th, 2025

Our Gazebo Jetty Test and Tutorial Party kicks off next Wednesday, 2025-08-27T16:00:00Z! If you are looking to tip your toes into open source development, or just want to lend a hand, we would love to see you there!

The best part of my job is getting to watch people in the ROS community grow and succeed. @parzival was one of our ROSCon scholars a few years back, and now he’s just wrapped up his tenure at YC and launching a new startup, Fly Wheel AI. He’ll be at ROS By-The-Bay on Thursday to tell us about what he has been working on.

I came across this fantastic article from Meta’s AI team this week, “Small robots, mighty vision: NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s DINOv2-enabled robot rovers and the future of planetary exploration”. NASA JPL has this cool Visual Perception Engine project for their robots, it is a fast and flexible framework designed to run multiple perception models in an optimized and concurrent manner on NVIDIA Jetson, and it even has hooks for ROS 2 Humble!

This week we have :three: new OSRA members to announce this week: Canonical, Botsync, and Netatech. Canonical, long time supporter of ROS, is coming on as a platinum member!
