Hi Gazebo Community!
This week’s meeting was held on
2026-03-02T19:00:00Z and the following
is a summary:
-
PMC Business: None
-
New agenda items:
- GSoC 2026: Gazebo has been accepted! Project proposals should be added to
the wiki by
2026-03-16T00:00:00Z, when students start arriving. Student applications are due
2026-03-31T00:00:00Z, and rankings due 2026-04-21T00:00:00Z. Issue triage is needed
this week to create more “Good First Issues” and “help wanted” tags. Two
current projects were mentioned (sonar implementation and QA of core systems),
and the roadmap can be used for more ideas. Co-mentoring was suggested as an
option for mentor availability. - Gazebo Release Cadence Proposal: Discussed the
proposal
to move the release date to March. This would better align with ROS releases
and ROSCon preparations. Discussed synchronizing version letters, potentially
skipping the “Kura” name, which received general support despite some
concerns about Gazebo’s identity. Also debated the support duration for the
old Ubuntu LTS, with options ranging from best-effort community support to
official support for up to 20 months. - Gazebo-classic transition: Reviewed the post-mortem survey and reflected
on the previous name change (Ignition to Gazebo), noting it caused confusion
and documentation challenges, and discussed strategies for future naming to
avoid similar issues.

Updates:
- Buildfarm & CI Issues: macOS homebrew CI is broken for gz-sim
(#3365) due to
upstream protobuf updates; we will ignore Homebrew CI until it’s fixed. - DART: DART 6.16 has been uploaded to unstable, and new gz-physics packages use the
new DART installation. - Docker: Gazebo open container images are now
officially supported.
Work is also ongoing to release server-only Docker images. - Virtual Packages: Testing conflicts on virtual packages for the gz-rotary
release on Ubuntu
(gz-virtual-pkg-test).
This is a promising solution for the problem of having to keep an ever
growing list of conflicts declared in Rotary packages. - gz-transport: The pull request to load Zenoh session configuration is
merged and backported
to Jetty. Work will continue on a shared memory implementation. - Homebrew: Implementing gz-rotary-* formulae for homebrew. Pull requests
#1451 and
#3287 are awaiting
review to help unblock version bumps.
