Hi Gazebo Community!
This week’s meeting was held on 2026-07-13T18:00:00Z and the following is a summary:
PMC Business
- None
New agenda items
- ROSCon 2026 PMC Meeting & Hackathon Planning:
- Community ideas and proposals are actively being collected for the upcoming ROSCon 2026 PMC meeting (Monday) and Hackathon (Friday).
- Please contribute ideas, topics, and motivations using the shared documents: ROSCon 2026 PMC Meeting Ideas (not public) and ROSCon 2026 Hackathon ideas (Public).
- The hackathon is designated as a public event open to anyone interested in contributing in order to encourage new community participation in open source.
- Options for sponsoring hackathon lunches are currently being investigated, and plans for after-event social dinners (such as a Gazebo contributors dinner) are being considered.
- Project Leadership Nominations: A reminder was shared that the self-nomination window for project leadership roles remains open, but will close soon.
Updates
Infrastructure & Buildfarm
- Buildfarm Priorities & Issues: All existing buildfarm priority issues have been resolved, except for one new warning regarding CMake 4.4 handling of backslashes: CMake Warning: Policy CMP0219 is not set in GzStringAppend.cmake. A pull request was opened to apply a policy-based interim fix, while leaving the issue open to track a future permanent resolution.
- Buildfarmer Dashboard: The temp buildfarmer dashboard is nearly complete and ready for review/testing across projects. Suggestions and feedback are welcome on pull request #263 or in the upcoming Zulip thread.
Package & Performance Updates
gz-sim&gz-renderingGUI Performance: Removed redundant calls that pre-rendered visual children twice per frame, which are now superseded by a base class call. This optimization resulted in significant startup speed improvements when loading large scenes (tested with 3,000 shapes). These changes have been merged across multiple target branches: Rotary #1309, Jetty #1311, Ionic #1312, and Harmonic #1313. Additional optimizations such as pausing rendering when the scene is unchanged were evaluated but determined to be too risky due to reliable trigger rules.
