Hi Gazebo Community!
This week’s meeting was held on 2026-04-06T18:00:00Z and the following is a summary:
PMC Business
- We will be switching to Google Meet for future PMC meetings.
- We are looking for someone within the PMC to lead the working group for the future of Gazebo. A call for nominations will be sent out soon, followed by a formal vote.
New agenda items
- PR Review Process: Discussed ways to handle the large influx of pull requests. A suggestion was made to introduce a
good first review(or similar) label to encourage community members to help with initial reviews, particularly focusing on local testing and verifying features or fixes. - ROSCon 2026: Proposals are due April 26th. A brainstorming session is being planned for this week.
- Gazebo Rotary Announcement: We plan to announce the Gazebo Rotary release soon. It will be paired with ROS Rolling. We will emphasize that this is a rolling/development release and breakage is to be expected (use at your own risk).
- Build Issues: Investigating an issue with release-tools where
pixiwith Gazebo fails to find certain packages during Windows builds. - Contributor Badges: Discussed the potential use of digital badges (Open Badges standard) to reward users and verify community contributions, similar to practices in other open-source projects.
Updates
- Buildfarm: The March Greenness report shows overall stability. The “Rotary” collection has been added, and “Kura” will be removed as it won’t be released. See the Buildfarm Issues Spreadsheet for current priorities.
- Documentation: A PR for restructuring navigation on gazebosim.org/docs is ready for review.
- Performance Experiment: Briefly discussed the experimental Entity Component Manager (ECM) implementation using the
EnTTlibrary. It showed a potential 4x speedup in specific scenarios, though there are ongoing discussions regarding packaging and API stability. We are looking for feedback from anyone interested. gz-transport: There is a PR to set a higher default value for the Zenohwait_before_dropparameter.gz-sim: Hydrodynamic updates are currently under review.- Infrastructure: Increased RAM (to 16GB) on Windows standard build agents. Also, Gazebo Rotary Linux packages are fully deployed and available via the nightly repository (
apt-get install gz-rotary). gz-physics: A PR is open adding category and collision bitmask features for MuJoCo.- CI/CD: Experimenting with
action-ros-cifor building the workspace from source with Colcon (sdformat PR, gz-tools PR).
As always, the meeting notes are available at
Gazebo PMC meeting weekly agenda - Google Docs.
