Hello Gazebo Community,
Gazebo Ionic was released in September 2024 and will reach EOL in December, 2026[1] together with ROS 2 Kilted. We recommend users upgrade to Gazebo Jetty, which is paired with ROS 2 Lyrical, as soon as possible. Migrating to Jetty should be fairly smooth, however, be sure to check the Jetty release notes in addition to the migration guides of each Gazebo library (e.g. gz-sim Migration.md).
What does End of Life Mean?
Users often ask us, “what does end of life mean?” To put it briefly, end of life means that the Gazebo team will no longer support that particular Gazebo release. In practical terms, this means that we will no longer be providing the following:
- New features or capabilities
- Security updates
- Bug fixes, patches or support
- Updated binaries
It is also worth noting the things that won’t change after the release goes end of life:
- Binaries for the release will not suddenly disappear
- Users will not need to migrate immediately, but they should migrate as soon as possible
