DDS is more like a protocol with an open specification of it, and we, as a users, can choose which vendor implementation to use (Cyclone DDS, Fast DDS, rtpstalk, …).

In case of Zenoh (@kydos please correct me) there is only one vendor right now - ZettaScale

Hi, To me, TCPROS is an example of open protocol - it provides specification, you can implement its own client and communicate with any ROS1 nodes over it. DDS is also example of open protocol - it provides specification, you can implement its own client and communicate with any ROS2 nodes over it (examples of such clients are FastDDS, CycloneDDS, …).
