Hi everyone,
Several professors from the Intelligent Robotics Lab (URJC) are serving as guest editors for this Special Issue, and we would really love to make it a high-quality issue with strong contributions, especially from the ROS community, from people working on navigation or SLAM, with open-source and functional implementations.
The journal is Robotics (MDPI) (ISSN 2218-6581), with an Impact Factor of 3.3 and ranked Q2 in JCR, under the section “Robotics”.
The Special Issue is titled “State of the Art in Mobile Robot Localization”, and aims to gather recent advances in localization for mobile robots — both theoretical and applied. Topics of interest include:
- Mobile robot localization and navigation
- SLAM and mapping
- Multi-sensor fusion (LiDAR, vision, GNSS, IMU, UWB)
- Probabilistic state estimation and Bayesian filtering
- Deep learning and hybrid localization methods
- Robust localization in dynamic and uncertain environments
- Cooperative and multi-robot localization
- Real-time localization and control
- Benchmarking, datasets, and reproducible research
Submission deadline: April 30th 2026
