Senior Robotics Architect (ROS 2) — Remote (US) | ~15% Travel

We’re partnering with a cutting-edge robotics team within a large-scale manufacturing environment that is building and evolving a next-generation robotics ecosystem to support a diverse range of robotic systems.

The current platform is built on ROS 2 and EtherCAT, and the team is seeking a Senior Robotics Architect to take ownership of the system’s architecture and technical direction.

This is a highly impactful role where you will lead the evolution of a robotics control platform, drive performance improvements, and help scale a modern robotics ecosystem across multiple applications and form factors.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the architecture and technical direction of a robotics control system built on ROS 2
  • Own the platform’s ongoing evolution, including maintenance, optimization, and scalability
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement robust, scalable solutions
  • Design and deliver new features and capabilities within the robotics platform
  • Serve as a hands-on technical leader, contributing to critical development efforts as needed
  • Mentor and guide engineers on design patterns, best practices, and technical execution
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams, including an international team (occasional off-hours overlap required)
  • Support a broad robotics ecosystem across multiple robot types and use cases

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience architecting robotics control systems
  • Expert-level experience with ROS 2
  • Strong software engineering foundation in robotics systems (C++ / Python typical)
  • Experience maintaining and improving existing production platforms
  • Experience designing or supporting perception systems / physical AI (e.g., computer vision, sensor fusion)
  • Ability to lead technical decisions while remaining hands-on
  • Experience mentoring or leading other engineers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with EtherCAT or similar real-time communication protocols
  • Experience supporting diverse robotic systems (e.g., AMRs, manipulators, drones, humanoids, quadrupeds)
  • Background in manufacturing, industrial automation, or advanced robotics
  • Experience working with distributed or international engineering teams

Top Skills

  1. Robotics system architecture
  2. ROS 2 (deep, production-level experience)
  3. Perception systems / physical AI

Work Environment

  • 100% remote within the United States
  • ~15% travel for on-site collaboration and hardware integration
  • Global team collaboration
  • Opportunity to shape a modern, production-grade robotics platform at scale
