Maritime CWG Meeting June 2026: WHOI-ROS

Hi all,

A reminder for our working group meeting today!

Here are the details: When: Last Tuesday of each month, 4–5pm EST This month: June 30th, 2026

June agenda: “WHOI-ROS: a shared ROS 2 stack for deep-sea vehicles” presented by Nathan McGuire (WHOI)

  • What WHOI-ROS is — shared ROS 2 foundations (wr2_base, wr2_asio, wr2_msgs) plus navigation, components, sensor drivers, simulation, and post-processing, used across WHOI vehicle programs
  • Architecture: how the workspace separates shared infrastructure from vehicle-specific configs, and the wr2_asio / wr2_base patterns that drivers and nodes are built on
  • Lessons from migrating a substantial ROS 1 codebase to ROS 2 (Humble, with Jazzy in play)
  • How the broader community can engage and contribute
  • Q&A and open discussion
