PMC Business

  • None

New agenda items

  • Gazebo-M Naming Process: The namestorming process for Gazebo-M continues on the namestorming sheet (not public). The PMC agreed to extend the name filtering phase by one week to allow more community members and team participants to contribute.

Updates

C++20 Migration & Rendering

  • C++20 Progress & Ogre 1.9 Dependencies (tracking issue: gz-cmake#580:
    • C++20 builds are currently blocked by Ogre 1.9 compilation issues. Upgrading to Ogre 1.12 is pending PR review after ROSCon; the team discussed temporarily disabling Ogre 1.9 on the main branch if needed to unblock C++20 migration progress.

Asset Format Strategy (COLLADA vs. glTF)

  • Discussion on COLLADA Support: Discussed long-term deprecation of COLLADA (DAE) format support in favor of modern standards like glTF/GLB, as major tools (such as Blender) have dropped COLLADA. The team will outline a transition strategy—including conversion tools and Fuel compatibility checks—before removing COLLADA in a future release. Discussion will continue on Zulip.

Core Libraries & Geometry

  • Physics & Simulation: Fixed graded buoyancy calculations for rotated collision shapes in gz-sim (gz-sim#3880). Note: this behavior change will be documented in the migration guide.
  • Geometry & Math Utilities:
    • Added Centroid() calculation to simple shape classes in gz-math (gz-math#791).
    • New PR adding mesh Centroid() calculation and fixing Volume() calculations for meshes offset from the origin in gz-common (gz-common#877).
  • COLLADA Loader Improvements: Merged Part 2/3 of COLLADA loader robustness fixes in gz-common (gz-common#831).

Buildfarm & Release Infrastructure

  • Ubuntu 26.04 (Resolute) Packaging for Jetty:
    • Packaging progress for Ubuntu 26.04 (release-tools#1503) has successfully reached gz-physics, gz-transport, and gz-fuel-tools. Investigation is ongoing for gz-rendering and freeimage.
    • GitHub CI integration for 26.04 is underway with several PRs in review, including sdformat#1702.
  • New Releases: Released gz-msgs (10.4.0 / 11.2.0), gz-transport (13.6.0 / 14.3.0), and their associated vendor packages.
  • Homebrew Ecosystem: Rebuilt Homebrew simulation packages following Abseil, PyBind11, and FFmpeg updates, and reported a Homebrew-Zenoh issue (homebrew-zenoh#21) which was fixed.
