Have you ever set up dominoes for a truly epic fall? There’s a whole lot of setup that precedes an impressive end result. That’s what it felt like in Open Robotics HQ this past week. So many of the things we do take a lot of work and yak shaving before they show any results. Sure, those results can be impressive, but that setup…you need to keep reminding yourself that you are making progress, even if it doesn’t feel that way. You’ve all been there and know the feeling.
In the past week we’ve continued work on the yearly audit, but a lot of time went into ROSCon Global. Even though we’ve filled all the booths in the expo hall, more sponsors keep turning up. Good problems to have are still problems! Between negotiating meaningful sponsorships with them and coordinating with the sponsors who’ve already signed, it makes for an awful lot of calls and emails. Each one of those is another domino in the grand design.
Organizing the meetings and communications of the new technical committees for both security and for the 2027 technology strategy are more dominoes that require time and skill to set up but don’t pay off for a while. Necessary, yes, but not especially fulfilling…yet.
Lest this post read like a cry of “we’re really busy, honest!”, we have one very concrete thing we can share from the past week: we’ve selected the city for ROSCon Global 2027.
And no, we’re not going to tell you, but we’ll give you a hint: it’s somewhere in Europe (we didn’t say we’d give you a good hint). You’ll have to join us in Toronto to be one of the lucky ones to learn the location before the rest of the community.
