Hi all,
On 2026-04-21T06:59:00Z, we will freeze all core ROS 2 packages to prepare for the upcoming Lyrical Luth release on 2026-05-22T07:00:00Z.
Once this freeze takes effect, we will not accept new features to the core packages until Lyrical branches from ROS Rolling. This restriction applies to the packages and vendor packages appearing in the ros2.repos file: ros2/ros2.repos at rolling · ros2/ros2 · GitHub
We still welcome bug fixes after the freeze date.
Find more information on the Lyrical Luth release timeline here: ROS 2 Lyrical Luth (codename ‘lyrical’; May, 2026).

And Lyrical is Frozen! Until ROS Lyrical branches from ROS Rolling, we will only be accepting bug fixes to the ROS Rolling branches of any repo appearing in the ros2.repos file.
Expect to see these steps this week:
- There will be one last ROS Rolling sync on Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble)
- ROS Rolling will move to Windows 11, Ubuntu 26.04, and RHEL 10
- ROS Lyrical will branch from ROS Rolling
I will post an announcement once ROS Lyrical branches from ROS Rolling.

Hey! @sloretz , @mjcarroll :
If I understand this table it seems PR freeze will be May 18th, but right now rosdistro shows all lyrical PR as held for sync.
Will the queue be merged before the release?
In particular, I ask because of this one which would fix a cascade of ~20 dependencies in lyrical which right now FTBFS…
Hey @jlblancoc we were holding PRs just so that Shane could get a release candidate out. We will re-open and merge the remaining things in the queue shortly!
