Research Engineer (NC State)

The Autonomous Experimental Robotics and Intelligent Systems (AERIS) Lab at NC State University is hiring its first Robotics Research Engineer. This is a full-time position designing, building, and field-testing autonomous unmanned systems — from embedded firmware and PCB layout through ROS2 autonomy stacks to flight testing at our 1,500-acre FAA-approved field site. The role spans hardware and software: UAS platform development, sensor integration, perception and planning pipelines, and lab infrastructure. We’re looking for someone who is as comfortable with a soldering iron and a logic analyzer as they are reading a robotics research paper. A BS in CS, EE, ME, Aerospace, Robotics, or a related field is required (MS/PhD preferred), along with ROS/ROS2 proficiency and experience with embedded systems. The position is based in Raleigh, NC.
