Lately I’ve been intermittently but often getting this message when trying to access ROS documentation (like c++ API etc). Am I the only one running into this? I definitely have browser cookies enabled, and I’m not going through a VPN. The below messages was obtained by browsing to this location.
Works for me (Firefox/Ubuntu with uBlock Origin + Ghostery + Smart Referer)
I’ve been getting a long block for a ~month and occasionally getting that on the ROSCon website
I’m hitting this as well, on my phone on data and wifi, as well as my laptop on home and work internet. It complains about cookies being blocked, but they are not, and even adding an explicit override allowing them on the domain doesn’t fix it. This is with the latest Chrome on Linux (no add blockers/other privacy plugins enabled).
This has gotten much worse for me over the last 2 days. Windows, Updated Chrome and Firefox, no vpn.
The ROS docs have become essentially unusable.
Curious if others are still experiencing issues and if anyone is working on it?
To help us diagnose, are you seeing this behavior intermittently or 100% of requests under that browser see this message?
Do you see the same message in Incognito?
Last 2 days it covered both pretty much 100% of the time.
Today, it seems incognito is working most of the time, but regular chrome is still 100% blocked.
Interesting, I just swapped over to my personal laptop (Running 26.04). I disabled cookies and here is what I found:
- Anubis seemed to work fine with Chrome when 3rd party cookies were disabled.
- Anubis blocked access on Firefox when 3rd party cookies were disabled.
I can see if we can get someone to look into it. In the mean time would it be possible to whitelist *.ros.org on your browser?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the problem here is that Anubis is showing this even when the browser is NOT configured to block cookies.
We need to zero in on what makes your browser special, because I can’t reproduce this on any of my machines. Maybe an adblock plugin?
I use Firefox with (uBlock origin + Ghostery + Smart Referer) on Ubuntu (mostly 20.04) and I haven’t seen these pages (yet). Also not from the phone (Firefox + ublock @ Android 16).
Thanks for engaging on this everyone.
I’m not using an adblocker of any kind.
My cookie and security settings in chrome look like this
Nothing appears in the console and the website credentials seem to be validating
Thanks for the information. I know this is frustrating, but I’m still trying to reproduce this problem.
I find this page a bit misleading because blocking cookies would trigger a different message before the challenge is processed. This page essentially means that the challenge completed but a call to set the cookie to avoid future challenges failed. I found evidence that improper HTTPS redirects could trigger something like this, but it appears that our redirects are working correctly (happening before Anubis is even activated).
I see a ! on the Network tab in your screenshot. Would you mind looking at that tab, and also the “Issues” tab near the bottom to see if it indicates why that cookie couldn’t be set?
Also, what happens if you click “Go home” on that page?
The “!” on Network apparently came from the Sources/Overrides tab which had some stuff in my Downloads folder linked. However, none of it would have mapped to ros and removing those overrides did not change behavior.
After clicking “GoHome” it took me to the docs root successfully. I then opened a new tab and was able to access the page without the screen. I could have sworn I tried clicking GoHome before, but that seems to have resolved the problem this time.
