I’m Alex Andriën, an independent robotics engineer in the Netherlands (Andrien Robotics). I take on bounded, hard problems in control, state estimation and sensor fusion on real hardware: the part where it works in simulation and not on the robot.
Typical problems:
- Localization that drifts or breaks without GNSS (drones, AMRs, underwater)
- Sensor fusion and calibration: IMU, camera, LiDAR, GNSS
- Controllers that are unstable, sluggish or fragile on the real platform
- Contact-rich manipulation where precision has to come from sensing
Background:
- PhD, TU Eindhoven: optimization-based estimation and control for quadcopters
- Lead control engineer at Avular (autonomous drones and AMRs) and Microsure (surgical robotics)
- Intrinsic AI for Industry Challenge 2026: fourth overall as a one-person team. Sub-millimeter plug insertion by fusing a vision model with touch-based estimation. [link]
- ROS 2, PX4/MAVLink, C++/Python, Jetson
Working shape: remote from the Netherlands, on-site blocks of up to two weeks anywhere, part-time or full burst against a deadline. Fixed-scope work preferred.
