Hi everyone,

I’m happy to share that @christophebedard is the **ROS Boss for ROS 2 Makoa Mata-mata** , our next release, planned for May 2027. Thank you, Christophe, for taking this on!

## What the ROS Boss does

The ROS Boss coordinates a distribution through its release, working with maintainers, the PMC and the infrastructure team to keep everything on track. You can see the [full list of distributions and their ROS Bosses](https://docs.ros.org/en/rolling/Releases.html) in the docs.

## Why Christophe

Christophe is a member of the ROS PMC and a committer, and already looks after release management for Humble. Christophe also contributes across ROS 2, including `ros2_tracing`, `launch`, `rosbag2` and the documentation.

## Why now

The [Lyrical retrospective](https://discourse.openrobotics.org/t/56999) recommended picking the ROS Boss much earlier, since Lyrical’s was chosen roughly three months before the release. Having Makoa’s ROS Boss in place more than six months ahead gives the team more time to plan.

Thanks also to @sloretz for serving as ROS Boss for Lyrical and sharing those lessons.

## How you can help

- **Follow the progress** on the [Makoa project board](https://github.com/orgs/ros2/projects/80) and the [release timeline](https://docs.ros.org/en/rolling/Releases/makoa/release-timeline.html).
- **Try Rolling** and report the problems you find. Makoa is built from Rolling, so early testing makes the release smoother.
- **Planning a large change for Makoa?** Let Christophe and the PMC know early, so it can be taken into account.

Please join me in thanking and congratulating Christophe!

Alejandro

Thank you @ahcorde! Looking forward to working with everyone to ship Makoa 🐢 in May!

I also want to thank @audrow for trusting me to help out last year and then take over as ROS Boss for Humble :humble: earlier this year. I learned a lot! 😀
